It was great representing @uibglobal at the mega #IoT ecosystem #SmartLiving event in #Berlin today. #Security and #privacy (especially #conversational #data ownership and control) were discussed extensively, but #Germany's Minister of #Economy Mr. #Altmaier and an expert panel also emphasized the importance of user adoption. 75 billion devices will be connected by 2025 (10x more than people on the planet), growing to several 100 billion devices by 2030. Consumer IoT is a huge economic opportunity, with 20-30% YoY growth in smart home products in Germany. By 2023 approx. €127 billion will be spent worldwide - with the US, Europe and China driving it. Semantic #interoperability is key to create simple to use systems which are brand and industry agnostic to achieve mass adoption. We must meet people on the channels they’re on, trust, and know how to use - rather than forcing them to use a specific #app, #device or #speaker. #Open #APIs, services, collaborative use case development (100% user and not revenue centric!), with anonymized data sharing would achieve real value creation for all players, and, ultimately, the end users. There is also a new #career path in Germany "building and system integrator" focusing on IoT, smart buildings, #automation, #electronics, and #AI.
